The world is going crazy

Pastor Mark Jeske

By some measures our world is getting less violent. By others, it’s going crazy. What is certain is that instantaneous digital media has so shortened the news cycle that we are all wired into all news all the time. Everybody knows everything that is happening when it’s happening. We are all informed on the myriad ways that cruel and murderous people have found to take the lives of others—trucks driving up on sidewalks and slaughtering pedestrians and angry, suicidal gunmen with automatic weapons shooting up churches, schools, and malls.

Sigh. In reality, the world has always been crazy. Ever since Adam and Eve stopped trusting in God and went off to try things their own way, life on earth has often been like life in hell. Hatred. Crime. Violence. Racism. Murder. War. What are we to do? If there ever was a time when this world needed God’s intervention and protection, that time is now: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever” (Psalm 44:22,23).

Indeed, awake, Lord, and help us! We need you now. Protect our children. They are so small and vulnerable. Send more angels, please. Protect your churches—the world needs more worship and witness. Protect schools, especially Christian schools. Your gospel of hope must be transmitted to the hopeless.

Whenever you’re ready, come and take us home.
