God is with you
Pastor Clark Schultz
It was mid-July. A discussion broke out in our car between our two older boys regarding when school was going to start.
“Not soon enough,” mumbled the parents under their breath (). But being the adults, we told our middle child that school would be starting in less than a month. His five-year-old response cracked us up: “A whole month? That’s like a whole week away!”
“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (2 Peter 3:8). Is this saying our God is on toddler time? I mean, think about it. When you were younger, summers seemed to last forever, but then you grew up and thought, “Where did the time go? It seems the days are speeding by.” There are days when you feel like you’re trapped in the eternal car ride of sickness, bills, and fights with siblings. Those days don’t seem to speed by quickly enough.
We live in a broken world. Sin makes the miserable times seem like eternity and the good times like catching water in our hands. In both cases, God is God. His timetable is not ours, and he is not bound by the minutes and seconds we hold so dear. While this can seem frightening, remember Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Months, weeks, yesterday, today, and tomorrow you are with God.
