The God of hope
Pastor Matt Ewart
To some degree, you willingly arrange your life around every single hope that you have.
One of the times I arranged my life around a hope was a few years into marriage. My wife and I began to pay a lot of attention to how many bedrooms our future house would have, what kind of cars we were driving, and what kind of career paths we were on. You know why we did all of that? Because we hoped to have kids. They rearranged our lives before we ever had them.
You do this in your life too. High school students take the long route to class with the hope that they run into that special someone. Athletes put in extra workout time with the hope of winning. Employees add extra effort with the hope of being promoted.
What hopes will you arrange your life around today? There’s a big hope that permeates through all the others. Jesus settled your sin at the cross and rose again three days later. You have the hope of eternal life. You have the certain hope that someday you and everyone who falls asleep in Christ will be raised to life again.
What would today look like if you arranged your life around that kind of hope?
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).
