I’m confident in this

I’m not an overly confident person. I’m not the type to assume that everything will go well or according to plan. I’m not confident that every person I elect into office will do what they say they will. I’m not confident my plane will always take off on time. I’m not confident I’ll have the opportunity to live to see grandchildren someday. I’m not confident everyone I love will die peacefully and avoid the tragedy of illness or violence. I’m not confident I’ll never run out of money. I’m not even confident I’ll always fit in the same jeans I’m wearing now.

There’s a lot I’m unsure of—big stuff and little stuff. You too? If you think about it, almost nothing is a sure thing. I’m really not trying to depress you; I’ve just learned I can’t put my hope in anything on earth with full confidence. But I’m confident in this: 1) I’m a sinner who needs Jesus. 2) Jesus washes me clean. I have faith in those truths.

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:22,23).

Don’t lean on false hope in people or earthly stuff. On the other hand, hold unswervingly to the hope you have in your faithful God who makes you forgiven, clean, and pure.
