If you can’t find happiness
Pastor Daron Lindemann
Today eight out of ten Americans believe that enjoying yourself is the highest goal of life and to find happiness you need to look within yourself. But what do we see in there? New studies suggest that it’s not good.
Consider the new pressures of social media. Previously the home was a place to relax. We could forget about our acne or bad hair or out-of-date clothing. Nobody was watching. There was no competition or comparing.
Now wherever we go—even at home—social media is buzzing, and the competition and comparing goes with us. Everybody is always watching. We’re on display, and the pressure is stressing us out. There is always someone better looking, more organized, or living the dream that we’re not. It can be depressing.
“I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God” (Ecclesiastes 3:12,13).
Happiness isn’t a personal experience. Nor is it feeling good on the inside. Happiness is a gift from God. Happiness is being grateful for food and drink from a loving Father. Happiness is believing in divine promises. Happiness is serving others with a fulfillment of God’s reflected love.
You can’t find true happiness until you look to God for it. Then you will know it’s his gift to you.
